১৮৯৭ চনৰ ১২ জুন তাৰিখে হোৱা ভূমিকম্পটোৱে সমগ্ৰ অসমৰ ক্ষতি সাধন কৰে। ইয়াৰ প্ৰাৱল্য আছিল ৮.১ ৰিখটাৰ স্কেল।.[1]
এই ভূমিকম্পৰ ফলত প্ৰায় ১৫০,০০০ বৰ্গ মাইল (৩৯০,০০০ বৰ্গ কিঃমিঃ) অঞ্চলৰ ঘৰ-দুৱাৰ আদি ধ্বংস হয়। ইয়াৰ উপৰি ম্যানমাৰৰ পৰা নতুন দিল্লীলৈকে প্ৰায় ২,৫০,০০০বৰ্গ মাইল (৬,৫০,০০০ বৰ্গ কিঃমিঃ) জুৰি এই ভূমিকম্পৰ কম্পন অনুভৱ কৰা গৈছিল। ইয়াৰ ফলত প্ৰতিৱেশী দেশ ভূটানৰ বহু অট্টালিকা ধ্বংস হয়।[2]
এই ভূমিকম্পৰ ফলত প্ৰায় ১৫০০ জন লোকৰ মৃত্যু হৈছিল। ইয়াৰ উপৰিও বহু পৰিমাণৰ সা-সম্পত্তিৰ ক্ষয়-ক্ষতি হয়।
